"personal space" seems to be socially/culturally generated for "norms" -- in the USA we seem to have more PS than in some other countries where they tend to like less space between folks.   At the ATMs I've never seen anyone standing right up behind the person using the machine, usually there's at least a good 6 feet of space to whoever is waiting to use it.  I'd definitely ask that person to back the hell off "please".

Yeah, the media does make a huge deal out of anything that is "news" -- like having a couple of showers in So Cal and the tv is breaking into programs with their weather warnings...I wondered too about the number of teens getting swine flu, maybe you're on to something, Jim.

The other day I started to wonder if the reason why this flu, the H1N1, is attacking young supposedly healthy people, especially those in their teens, is because of their high hormone levels.  The Earths way of attempting to curb human reproduction.

I didn't realize Phenergan was still on the market.

Edited:  Wow!  I just checked Wiki...  I didn't realize Phenergan is an OTC here, as if it was common codeine.

Remember this?????

SARS
Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is a viral respiratory illness caused by a coronavirus, called SARS-associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV). SARS was first reported in Asia in February 2003. Over the next few months, the illness spread to more than two dozen countries in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia before the SARS global outbreak of 2003 was contained. This fact sheet gives basic information about the illness and what CDC has done to control SARS in the United States. To find out more about SARS, go to CDC's SARS website and WHO's SARS website.

The SARS outbreak of 2003
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a total of 8,098 people worldwide became sick with SARS during the 2003 outbreak. Of these, 774 died. In the United States, only eight people had laboratory evidence of SARS-CoV infection. All of these people had traveled to other parts of the world with SARS. SARS did not spread more widely in the community in the United States. For an update on SARS cases in the United States and worldwide as of December 2003, see Revised U.S. Surveillance Case Definition for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Update on SARS Cases --- United States and Worldwide, December 2003.

Although avian influenza A viruses usually do not infect humans, rare cases of human infection with avian influenza A viruses have been reported. Most human infections with avian influenza A viruses have occurred following direct contact with infected poultry. Human clinical illness from infection with avian influenza A viruses has ranged from eye infections (conjunctivitis) to severe respiratory disease (pneumonia) to death.

Since November 2003, nearly 400 cases of human infection with highly pathogenic avian influenza A (H5N1) viruses have been reported by more than a dozen countries in Asia, Africa, the Pacific, Europe and the Near East. Highly pathogenic avian influenza A (H5N1) viruses have never been detected among wild birds, domestic poultry, or people in the United States. The World Health Organization (WHO) maintains situation updates and cumulative reports of human cases of avian influenza A (H5N1). Most human cases of H5N1 virus infection are thought to have occurred as a result of direct contact with sick or dead infected poultry.

My point being that once upon a time these also were also thrust upon us by the media to scare into believing an epidemic or pandemic was imminent. Oprah had one lady I worked with so scared to death over the avian flu that she actually took to wearing gloves at work and a mask at one point!!!!

Well it seems my daughter finally turned a corner today. Yesterday, she was in tremendous pain with mouth ulcers, and braces that were digging into swollen gums.

The doc finally prescribed a combo of phenergan and codeine.  After just one night's rest, she is doing so much better. She even went outside for a little today.   Amazing what a little narcotic and some sleep will do.

Okay,  I guess I'm used to it being called "personal space" .  But I've never heard of an actual rule about it... it was just something most people have a sense for.
